Peak Rail

Learn about the trains of the past

Forming part of the old Midland Railway line, which was closed in 1968, Peak Rail operates on around four miles of track between Rowsley South Station, Darley Dale and Matlock Platform 2.

Railway history and Sunday lunch

Don’t miss the Heritage Shunters Trust at Rowsley South Station, home to a huge collection of ex-British diesels. You can learn a lot more about the railway of the past at Darley Dale Station’s museum. The scenic town of Matlock is well worth a visit too. Or fulfil a childhood dream and drive a locomotive on a Steam Experience driving course (over 18s only).

If you’d rather sit back and enjoy the journey, you can book a Sunday lunch or afternoon tea to tuck into on-board the train. Just be sure to book in advance.
