Change of plans?

If you want to make your journey on a different day or at a different time, you can get most tickets amended at our staffed stations before the departure of the first reserved train printed on the ticket. There's a £10 admin fee, plus any difference in fare if your new ticket costs more than the original.

The changes you can make depend on what type of ticket you have:

  • Advance tickets: you can change the date and time of your journey
  • Anytime tickets: you can change the date of your ticket. The time is completely flexible so you don't need to change your ticket if you're travelling on a day when your ticket is valid
  • Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets: you can change the date of your ticket. You only need to change the time if you want to travel outside Off-Peak/Super Off-Peak times
  • Season tickets: you can change your origin and/or destination station if you move house or change jobs

When you make changes, we'll refund your original ticket and rebook a new one. Refunding your original ticket can take up to 10 working days.

At the station

Take your tickets to the ticket office at any EMR station.

Tickets bought online or from our app

On the website, log into your online account and follow the instructions on the 'My account' screen. Go to 'Order status and refund applications', click on your booking and follow the steps to change or refund your ticket.

On the app, log into your account and follow the instructions on the My Tickets section.

Season tickets

Moved house or changed jobs and need to amend your Season ticket journey?

If you purchased your Season Ticket at a Ticket Office we can offer a pro rata refund with no admin fee in certain circumstances. Ask at the ticket office where you bought your ticket.

If you purchased your Season Ticket online via EMR or have a Smartcard Season ticket, you can refund or change the journey by logging into your online account and following the instructions. You can pay the difference or get a refund on the balance for your new journey.
