Barbican Centre - Masculinities: Liberation Through Photography
Exhibition Dates: 20 February - 17 May 2020
2FOR1 Admission Weekday £15, Weekend £17
2FOR1 offer not valid 15 - 17 May
Through the medium of film and photography, this major exhibition explores how masculinity has been portrayed, performed, experienced and socially constructed, from the 1960s to the present day.
Looking at depictions of masculinity from behind the lens, the show brings together the work of over 50 artists, photographers and filmmakers including Laurie Anderson, Robert Mapplethorpe, Wolfgang Tillmans and Catherine Opie.
In recent years masculinity, and the way it is viewed, has come into sharper focus, with ideas of toxic and fragile masculinity becoming major discussion points. This exhibition charts the often complex and sometimes contradictory representations of masculinity and how they may have developed over time. Touching on themes including patriarchy, queer identity, female perceptions of men and masculine stereotypes, the exhibition shows how central photography and film have been to the way masculinity is imagined and understood.

British Museum - Arctic
Exhibition Dates: 28 May - 23 August 2020
Home to a rich culture for nearly 30,000 years, the Arctic is far from the uninhabitable hinterland it is often thought to be. Conceived in partnership with people from Arctic communities, this exhibition celebrates their ingenuity, rich cultural history and creativity. But climate change is testing their ability to adapt – possibly to its limit. What happens in the Arctic will affect us all and this exhibition is a timely reminder of what we can learn from its people.

British Museum - Tantra: enlightenment to revolution
Exhibition Dates: 23 April - 26 July 2020
Explore the ancient philosophy of Tantra and find out how it privileges the feminine and opened up new ways of seeing the world as a source of limitless power. Originating in India, Tantra spread to Nepal, Tibet, China and Japan and transformed South Asia’s major religions. It challenged society’s norms, and even inspired revolution during British rule in India. From the 20th century onwards, Tantra has been reimagined as a means of liberating society from sexual and political convention.
