Train operating companies across England and Wales are working together to offer up to 50% off selected Advance tickets on over 1 million journeys. The discounted fares will be available from participating train operating companies and ticket retailers. Where a participating train company doesn't offer Advance tickets, Off-Peak tickets may be offered as an alternative.

Great British Rail Sale tickets will be available from 00:01 on the 23 January until 23.59 on the 29 January 2024 for travel between 30 January and 15 March 2024. Tickets must be purchased at least 7 days in advance of the date of travel.

First Class tickets will be available as part of the sale on selected routes. First Class upgrades are also available to purchase through Seatfrog on selected services.

Yes, your ticket can be used for whatever journey purpose you wish, but you are only able to travel on the date and train shown on your ticket or for the journey you booked.

Yes, child tickets will be available in the Great British Rail Sale on EMR services.

If the train you purchased a ticket for is cancelled or is delayed and you still decide to travel, special arrangements will be made to accommodate you on another train (although a seat cannot be guaranteed). If you choose not to travel, you may apply for a refund on completely unused tickets and you will not be charged an administration fee.

Pricing information and refunds

The Great British Rail Sale is offering customers up to 50% off selected Advance tickets. Where a participating train company does not offer Advance tickets, Off-Peak tickets may be offered as an alternative.

Great British Rail Sale tickets are valid only for the date and train shown on your ticket or for the journey you booked and are non-refundable unless you are unable to travel due to a delay or cancellation. You can, however, change the time or date of your journey any time before your first reserved train departs via the train operating company or ticket retailer you purchased your ticket from. Any difference in fare and an administration fee will be payable prior to travel.

Customers can apply to see if they’re eligible for Delay Repay in times of disruption. If you choose not to travel at the last minute in the event of train delays, you should apply for Delay Repay. You can find information on Delay Repay here.

No, there is no additional discount available with Railcard.

2. The Promotional Period will start on 23 January 2024 and will end when all Great British Rail Sale Tickets have been sold or on 29 January 2024, whichever is sooner, for travel between 30 January 2024 and 15 March 2024. The number of Great British Rail Sale Tickets available during the Promotional Period is limited and subject to availability.

3. Great British Rail Sale Tickets are selected Advance or Off-Peak tickets with fares discounted by individual participating Train Companies, up to 50% off the equivalent full price Advance ticket fare. Where a participating Train Company does not offer Advance tickets, Off-Peak ticket fares may be offered as an alternative. Great British Rail Sale Tickets are not available on all routes or all journeys and may not represent the lowest available fare for a particular journey.

7. For EMR services promotional fares will be available on EMR Intercity, EMR Connect, Liverpool to Norwich and Nottingham to Skegness routes. Promotional fares are also valid on other train operators services.

8. There will be at least 85,000 Standard and First class discounted EMR tickets made available through the whole travel period.

9. Discount is calculated based on 50% off EMR's most commonly sold Advance price level between 1 September and 31 October 2023, rounded down to the nearest 10p. Actual savings vs regular Advance prices may vary depending on the journey being booked.

10. Railcard discounts do not apply to Great British Rail Sale Tickets, and no other discounts can be used in conjunction with the Great British Rail Sale Tickets.

11. Great British Rail Sale Tickets are valid only on the date and train shown on the ticket and seat reservation and are non-refundable. Changes to the time or date of travel are possible before departure of the first reserved train. Differences in fare and administration fees may apply.

12. Promotional ticket availability may be withdrawn at any time at EMR's discretion and are subject to availability.
