From the first omnibus on the streets of London in 1829 to iconic works spanning a century of graphic design, London Transport Museum explores the heritage of London and its transport system and the stories of people who have travelled and worked in the city over the last 200 years. The Museum’s iconic collection includes historic buses, vintage Tube trains, trams, trolley buses and black cabs, alongside early Underground maps, vintage posters and photography that spark curiosity and transport visitors to a golden age of travel. Highlights include: - See one of the last surviving steam locomotives, Metropolitan number 23, that ran on the world’s first underground railway. - Learn to ‘drive’ an Elizabeth line train in the Future Engineers Gallery and get hands-on with interactive exhibits. - Discover 19th century transport and marvel at a stunning replica of the George Shillibeer omnibus. - Visit the Museum’s blockbuster exhibition, Art deco: the golden age of poster design which showcases the style’s enduring influence through original transport posters, photography, film and art. - Explore the Digging Deeper gallery and learn how the world’s first electric Tube railway was built deep under the city’s streets. - Browse an exclusive range of transport-inspired toys, gifts, stylish homeware and vintage posters at the Museum shop.
