- Changes to ticket office opening hours at 11 EMR stations
- All ticket offices will remain open Monday to Saturday
- Follows the successful introduction of EMR's reduced timetable on Monday 23rd March
East Midlands Railway has introduced temporary changes to the opening hours of a small number of station ticket offices, effective immediately.
The temporary measure is in response to falling passenger numbers across the network as people continue to heed the Government advice and only travel if it is absolutely essential. It also helps to improve the ability of the railway to provide a dependable service for key workers by reducing the number of staff necessary to operate the railway.
Ticket offices will continue to be open during the typical 'peak' periods so those who need to travel can continue to purchase tickets or speak to an EMR colleague. At larger stations with more than one ticket window, we will continue to close individual windows to aid social distancing. However, at least one window will always remain open during the new opening times.
Overall, some offices will open slightly later in the morning and/or close slightly earlier at night.
Neil Grabham, Customer Services Director at East Midlands Railway, said: "We are grateful our customers are listening to Government advice and only travelling if it is absolutely essential. As a result, we have seen further significant reductions in the number of customers travelling with us and we can safely reduce the opening hours at some of our ticket offices.
"We are also continuing to follow Government advice by protecting our core train services and ticket office opening times as much as possible to allow those who need to travel to buy a ticket and speak to a member of staff and this will be kept under constant review.
"Finally, on behalf of everyone at EMR, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all our frontline colleagues who are working throughout this difficult time as well as all the other key workers right across the country."
